At Christmas, we celebrate more than a season of lights, music, and tradition. We celebrate a moment in history when God stepped into our world.

The Christmas story begins in a quiet, unexpected way. A young woman named Mary is told she will give birth by the power of God. Shepherds—ordinary, overlooked men—hear angels announce glad tidings. A baby is laid in a manger, not a palace. From the very beginning, God shows us something important: He comes near to the humble, the broken, and the needy.

The angel’s message to the shepherds captures the heart of Christmas:

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” —Luke 2:11

Those words—unto you—are deeply personal. Christmas is not only a story of what happened long ago; it is good news for us today.

Why Did Jesus Come?

The Bible teaches that God created us to know Him and walk with Him. Yet all of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s holiness:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” —Romans 3:23
Our sin separates us from God, and no amount of good works, religion, or effort can remove that separation. But God, in His great love, provided a way.

From the Manger to the Cross

Jesus Christ was born into this world fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, revealed the heart of God, and showed compassion to sinners. But His mission did not end in the manger—it led to the cross.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” —Romans 5:8

On the cross, Jesus took our sin upon Himself and paid the penalty we deserved. He was buried, and on the third day He rose again, victorious over sin and death:

“Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” —Romans 4:25

This is the gospel—the good news. Salvation is not earned; it is a gift from God, given through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

What Does This Mean for You?

The Christmas story calls for a response. Just as the shepherds came to Christ and were changed, each of us is invited to come to Him in faith.

The Bible promises: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” —Romans 10:9

This is God’s invitation to you—to turn from sin and trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour.
“Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” —2 Corinthians 9:15
