Eternity
There are many who are troubled by questions that seem to have no answers. What will happen to me when I die? Is there an afterlife? Where will I spend eternity? The most important question that a person could ever ask is this – “If I were to die today, would I go to Heaven?” If you have ever asked this question, there is a wonderful answer!

The good news is found in the Bible, which tells us in 1 John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” God wants you to know, and He tells you in His Word, the Bible!
First, you must understand your need to be forgiven. The Bible is very clear that we all have a huge problem called sin. Romans 3:23 says it this way, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” This verse simply means that none of us are good enough to go to Heaven on our own merit. No matter how much good we try to do, we find that we always sin again. That’s what the Bible means when it says we “come short” of God’s glory. If you're willing to admit that, then you're ready to read the rest of God's plan of salvation.

The problem is this - sin has a high price tag. Romans 6:23(a) says, “For the wages of sin is death...” In other words, the price for sin is eternal death apart from God in a place called Hell, and as a result, eternal separation from a loving God. Because of our sin, none of us can make it to Heaven alone.

Religion and good works are not the answer – Religion tries to create its own way to God through doing good deeds, living a pure life, or being good to your fellow man. Although these things are good and right, they do not provide an answer to the sin problem we all have. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” In other words, what we think is good and right are not what matter to God. The Bible says again in Titus 3:5, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”

The good news – Jesus Christ provides the answer! The rest of Romans 6:23 says, “...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Even though we were lost in our sin and separated from God, He loved us, and sent His Son to die on a cross and rise from the dead three days later. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, He became the payment for our sin, which means that now we don’t have to pay for our own sin. Again in Romans 5:8 God says, “But God commendeth [meaning He demonstrated] His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”

You must believe that Jesus Christ can and will save you from your sin – Jesus Christ came to earth as God in the flesh, lived a perfect life, and then voluntarily died on a cross because He loves you. On that cross, He literally paid for all of your sins. He took your blame! He punished Himself for your wrong-doings. What a great gift! We must stop trusting ourselves, our good works, or our religious beliefs, and place our full trust in Him alone for the forgiveness of our sin. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” God has promised that if you will confess your sin to Him, trust Him alone to save you from your sinful condition, and ask Him to save you… He will!
You can make that decision today by praying from your heart, something like this:
DEAR GOD, I KNOW THAT I AM SEPARATED FROM YOU BECAUSE OF SIN. I CONFESS THAT IN MY SIN, I CANNOT SAVE MYSELF. RIGHT NOW, I TURN TO YOU ALONE TO BE MY SAVIOUR. I BELIEVE THAT JESUS DIED FOR ME AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD. I ASK YOU TO SAVE ME FROM THE PENALTY OF MY SIN, AND I TRUST YOU TO PROVIDE ETERNAL LIFE TO ME.
—AMEN
